Sanshou ("free hand") or Sanda ("free fighting")
Sanshou is part of CCS training - welcome to our training!
Sanshou/Sanda in itself is a self-defense system combining different Chinese Martial Arts, which was based upon civilian free-fighting or street self-defense based techniques. These techniques included all types of techniques found in all forms of Chinese Martial Arts systems, such as; punching, kicking, elbow strikes, and knee strikes, grappling, joint-manipulations, grabs, leg catches, sweeps, takedowns, throws, wrestling, chokes, head-butt’s, stomping, blocking, parrying, leg kicks, palm strikes, finger jabs, weapon defenses with vicious clawing, eye-gouging etc.
Sanshou/Sanda was then develop by the Chinese military, based upon the study and practices of traditional Chinese martial arts (Kung Fu) as a hand-hand self-defense training system, with modern combat fighting techniques; it combines full-contact kickboxing techniques, wrestling, takedowns, throws, sweeps, catches, and in some competitions, even elbow and knee strikes.
Sanshou/Sanda as a competition Sport:
The Chinese Government later sanctioned Sanshou/Sanda as a sport and a standard curriculum for the sport was developed. Sanshou/Sanda competitions are held in Sport Wushu tournaments around the World, alongside Taolu (forms) on a Lei Tai platform.
Our training program is based on the competition rules of the (IWF) and (EWF). Training sessions are demanding and challenging at best. Our students are expected to work hard in understanding and perfecting all the abilities needed to withstand the gruelling nature of this style. Sanshou/sanda is a full contact fighting system. Training is done with a partner practicing and learning different kicks, punches, evading, faking, blocking, catching, takedowns, and throws.
Its method and approach to combat is similar and suitable for students of other fighting system such as free fighters. Our rules are different during competitions, but it has many complimentary techniques that can be incorporated.
Stamina, power and speed training plays an important part in training when going towards competitions.
